********** WELCOME TO CHEX_MASTER **********
This program runs under D-BASE III. Therefore, it will be necessary for
you to first load your D-BASE program into the system.
After you have done this, do a set path command to the drive containing
the CHEX-MASTER disk. For instance, if it is in the "A" floppy drive,
type "SET PATH TO A:".If you have any question about the "SET PATH"
command, consult your D-BASE user's guide. Next, if this is your ** FIRST **
run of CHEX-MASTER, type in "DO MENU". You will be presented with a menu
screen with five options. Enter option "A","B","C", or "D" to configure
CHEX-MASTER as to where you plan to run it from. If the CHEX-MASTER disk
will be used in drive "A", type option "A". Likewise option "B".
If you plan to load and run from a hard disk (which, if you have one, you will
certainly want to do), use options "C" or "D" depending upon whether you want
to install it on "C" or "D". The programs will be installed in a directory
called "CHEXMANG". The CHEX-MASTER disk * MUST * be loaded from disk "A"
when doing the transfer to "C" or "D". Therefore, if your drive "A" does not
match the type disk (5 1/4 or 3 1/2), that CHEX-MASTER is on, first copy it
to one that does !!
CHEX-MASTER runs very slow on a floppy system due to the amount of disk
accessing. If you must run from floppy, consider installing a "RAM DISK".
Also, if you will be running from a two floppy system, it will be necessary
to copy (using DOS copy) COMMAND.COM from your DOS disk to the DBASE disk
THAT WILL REMAIN IN THE FIRST DRIVE. Whether you decide to run from a
floppy system WITHOUT a RAMDISK, or from a hard disk system, a CACHING
PROGRAM like "ZCACHE" or "PC-CACHE" is highly recommended to reduce disk
thrashing.
Once you have run "MENU" the first time, you need not use choices [ A - D ]
again, unless you want to change configuration. Thereafter, to start up
CHEX-MASTER, type the appropriate "SET PATH"; that is :
SET PATH TO A: for drive "A"
SET PATH TO B: for drive "B"
SET PATH TO C:\CHEXMANG for drive "C"
SET PATH TO D:\CHEXMANG for drive "D"
and type [ DO MENU ] , then select option [ R ] to run CHEX-MASTER.
